In 1903 the inaugural modern day baseball World Series begin. For the first time a team of the newly formed American League was pitted against the National League. The Series matched the Boston Pilgrims (Later to become the Red Sox) against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Boston won the best of nine (9) games winning in eight games by 5 to 3.
