Baseball Mud

Take The Shine From My Baseball
Using A Little Delaware River Mud

Here's Mud In Your eye

Baseball Mud is a little something unique involving your game of professional Major League Baseball. No it is not mud in your eye it's mud on the ball.

To think umpires for years have caused such a stink about pitchers trying to doctor the baseball with a little foreign substance added to the ball.

A new baseball once upon a time was covered with well stitched horse hide and now they are all 100% of baseballs are covered with full grain cow hide. "Here Is The Rub" as Shakespeare might have been prone to exclaim, "For In This Baseball Making World The New Baseball Is Slick and Shiny."

"Ah Come Let Me Clutch Thee" but it trys to slip and slide out of the pitchers hand. "So let me make-it-rough," surmised the Lords of the baseball kingdom.

Not too rough nor not too shiny but just right like little bear might say. What to do cried the pitchers and the forkers of the land? Never fear for somewhere there is a substance in the low lying river bogs there will be a baseball mud elixer bettter than hadacol which when rubbing little white baseball makes it just right for the gripper.

Good buddy I would bet you a penny against the rolling hole in a doughnut you were not aware that Major League Baseballs are doctored, or rubbed with Delaware River mud.

Brought to mind an old country song which went something like this,"Have you ever beat your feet in the Mississippi mud?" The Delaware River mud bogs and Mississippi mud have nothing in common but it just sort of rang a bell so I shared OK.

Ironically this has been a well kept, at least not a widely known bit of baseball uncommon knowledge, or maybe a little secret lo these many baseball years, without the general public and die hard baseball fans having a clue.

The game of baseball is not only an endearing game loved by eons of players, since way back when, it is the most fascinating teaching venue.

One can spend near to almost a lifetime playing the game following baseball rules its lore learning about baseball the unique and fascinating baseball history and studying ways to improve playing skills and still learn something new on any given day about the game of baseball.
